  • 1 l of water
  • 1 lemon (juice)
  • 500–800 g natural sugar

Method:

  1. Rinse the aronia, crush it and pour in one liter of water.
  2. Simmer for 20 minutes over low heat.
  3. Add the lemon juice and let the mixture rest overnight.
  4. Strain through a fine sieve, add the sugar and boil for another 15 minutes.
  5. Pour the hot syrup into sterilized bottles.

What to watch out for

When taken in excess, aronia can have mildly laxative effects. If you suffer from very low blood pressure or are taking medication, consult your doctor. It is best to take aronia on an empty stomach before a meal.
