Bay leaf and clove are a common part of Czech cooking. We use them in soups, sauces, meat dishes and for canning. Few people, however, know that this pair also has a long tradition in natural home medicine.
Tea from bay leaf and clove used to be prepared for back and muscle pain, fatigue, bloating and autumn colds. Thanks to its anti-inflammatory and warming effects, it can relieve the body and support natural regenerative processes.
Why bay leaf in particular
Bay leaf contains valuable substances such as magnesium, potassium, B vitamins and vitamin C. It is often used for digestive problems and inflammation of muscles or joints. Eugenol in particular is of great importance – a substance with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.

Ingredients
- 2 dried bay leaves
- 3 whole cloves
- 300 ml vody
Instructions
- Place the bay leaves in a small pot and pour in the water.
- Bring to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes over low heat.
- Remove from heat, add the cloves, cover and let steep for 10–15 minutes.
- Strain and serve warm.
Dosage
- 150 ml twice daily
- maximum of 10 days, then a break is necessary

A gentle variant suitable for regular sipping.
You will need
- 1 small dried bay leaf
- 1–2 cloves
- 500 ml of hot water
Instructions
- Pour hot water over the spices.
- Steep for 5–7 minutes under the lid.
- Strain, optionally sweeten with honey or add lemon.
