These homemade rolls are truly a delicacy that your whole family will love. They are easy to prepare, yet taste better than any store-bought rolls. I make them every week and am always coming up with new ideas, like different seeds, or brushing them with garlic or lard after baking. The possibilities are endless!

  • Preparing the starter: Dissolve the yeast in warm milk and add the sugar. Let it sit for a moment until the starter begins to foam.
  • Preparing the dough: Combine the flour with the salt and melted butter. Add the starter and knead into a smooth dough. If the dough seems too sticky, add more flour until it reaches the ideal consistency.
  • Shaping the rolls: When the dough is ready, divide it into two parts. Divide each half into four equal pieces. Roll each piece into as thin a triangle as possible. Then roll each triangle into the shape of a small roll. Transfer the rolls to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Baking: Brush the surface of the rolls with milk. Place in an oven preheated to 200–210 °C and bake for approximately 15–20 minutes, until nicely golden. For a better crust, place a tray with water on the bottom of the oven during baking to create a more humid baking environment.

Tip: After baking you can brush the rolls with garlic butter or lard for an even richer flavor. Whether you eat them plain or use them as a side to a meal, you’ll love them!
