Preparation procedure

  • Preparing the apples Wash, peel and grate the apples on a coarse grater. Add sugar, cinnamon and vanilla sugar. Stir and let rest for 5 minutes so the apples release their juice.
  • Preparing the dough In a large bowl, knead the softened butter with the sugar, then add the flour and baking powder. Gradually pour in the milk until a smooth, non-sticky dough forms. Divide it into two equal parts.
  • Assembling the cake Line a baking sheet (approx. 30×40 cm) with parchment paper. Roll out the first portion of dough into a sheet about 0.5 cm thick and transfer it to the baking sheet. Sprinkle evenly with ground nuts and press the layer down. Spread the apple mixture over the nuts and sprinkle a little more nuts on top. Roll out the second portion of dough into a sheet and cover the apple filling. Prick the top of the dough several times with a fork so that steam can escape during baking.
  • Baking Preheat the oven to 180–200 °C (convection 180 °C). Place the sheet in the center of the oven and bake for 18–22 minutes, until the surface is nicely golden and the dough is cooked through inside.
  • Cooling and serving Let the finished cake cool on the sheet for approximately 10 minutes so it doesn't warp when sliced. Serve on its own or with lightly whipped cream or sour cream.
