Apple snails are a light and fragrant dessert that the whole family will love. All you need are just two apples, a few basic ingredients and in no time you’ll have delicious fat-free baked goods on the table. Ideal with coffee, tea or just for snacking.

Preparation procedure

  • Dough preparation Sift the all-purpose flour into a bowl and make a well in the center. Add the dry yeast, sugar, salt and vanilla sugar into it. Mix in the egg, pour in the warm milk and work into a smooth, non-sticky dough. Cover with cling film and let rise for 40 minutes.
  • Shaping the snails Roll the dough out on a floured surface. Cut the apples into thin slices and spread them over the dough. Then roll the dough into a roulade. Brush the end of the dough with water so it holds well, and cut into slices about 2 cm thick. Tip: If you want the snails even juicier, you can grate the apples and add cinnamon.
  • Baking Place the snails on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush them with the beaten yolk mixed with milk. Bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C for about 20–30 minutes, until golden.
  • Finishing While still warm, brush the snails with jam and finally sprinkle with powdered sugar.
