If chicken and puff pastry seem like an odd combination to you, know that this flavor pairing is absolutely fantastic! Thanks to the puff pastry, the chicken stays wonderfully juicy and the filling won’t leak out. This recipe is a great idea for lunch or dinner that will please the whole family.

  • Preparing the spinach: Sauté the frozen spinach in butter and leave it in the pan until the water evaporates. Add crushed garlic, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Sauté the mixture for about 2 minutes. Finally add the sour cream, stir, and remove from the heat.
  • Preparing the chicken breasts: Cut each chicken breast lengthwise to create a pocket for the filling. Place the spinach mixture and a slice of cheese into the pocket. Season the meat with salt and season to taste.
  • Wrapping in puff pastry: Divide each sheet of puff pastry into two parts to get 6 pieces. Cut strips into the sides of each pastry piece. Place one stuffed chicken breast in the center and then fold the individual pastry strips over the meat so it is completely wrapped.
  • Baking: Transfer the wrapped chicken breasts to a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Brush them with the beaten egg and bake in a preheated oven at 200 °C for about 40 minutes, until the pastry is golden.
  • Serving: Serve with a side of your choice, for example roasted potatoes, rice, or fresh vegetables.
