Preparation procedure

  • In a large bowl, mix all the listed ingredients: the flour, sour cream, shortening, eggs and salt.
  • Work into a smooth dough and let it rest for approximately an hour. To make the dough easier to work with later, it is advisable to place it in a cool place, for example in the refrigerator.
  • Then take the dough out and, using a rolling pin, roll it out into a sheet about five millimetres thick, then brush it with an egg and sprinkle with cheese.
  • If desired, instead of cheese you can use, for example, caraway seeds, sesame seeds, red paprika or coarse salt. If you decide to use coarse salt, we recommend slightly reducing the amount of salt you add to the dough.
  • Then, using a knife, cut the dough into sticks or use cookie cutters to create other shapes and then carefully transfer them to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • The final step is to put the sheet with the sticks into an oven preheated to 180 to 190 degrees. Bake for ten to fifteen minutes, depending on the size and thickness of the sticks. Let cool and taste, because the sticks, of course, taste best fresh.
