Butter prices in stores are constantly rising, so it’s a great time to learn how to make butter at home. You only need whipping cream and a food processor or blender. The result? Delicious homemade butter that you can make easily and quickly, and what’s more, for a fraction of the price of the store-bought.

  • Whipping the cream: Pour half a liter of cream into a food processor or blender. Mix on medium to high speed for about 10 minutes, until the cream changes consistency into whipped cream.
  • Separating the butter and buttermilk: Continue whipping until the whipped cream starts to clump and separates into butter and buttermilk (a clear liquid). The process takes approximately another 5 minutes.
  • Draining the buttermilk: Carefully strain the butter milk (buttermilk). You can use it for baking or for drinking; it is rich in nutrients.
  • Forming the butter: Press the remaining butter with a wooden spoon or a spoon to remove as much liquid as possible. The more water you squeeze out of the butter, the longer it will stay fresh.
  • Washing the butter: For longer shelf life, wash the butter. Add very cold, almost icy water to the food processor and mix the butter on low speed for 30 seconds. Then pour out the water.
  • Storage: Put the finished butter into a sealable container and keep it in the refrigerator. It will last for several weeks.
