  • Preparing the onion: Finely chop the onion. Heat the oil in a deep pot, add the onion and sauté over medium heat until translucent. Salt and continue to sauté for about 10 minutes to sweeten the onion.
  • Preparing the meat: Cut the beef into larger pieces and add to the onion. Reduce the heat and let the meat simmer until it releases its juices. Stir occasionally. Add black pepper and herbs to taste. Cover with a lid and cook over medium heat for about 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Seasoning and sauce: Add the crushed garlic, sweet paprika, tomato juice and water. Season as needed with salt and spices. Cover and continue to simmer over low heat for another hour, until the meat is completely tender.
  • Thickening the sauce: If the sauce is too thin, add a teaspoon of starch or flour mixed in a little water and let it cook briefly.
  • Serving: Serve with mashed potatoes, bread dumplings or fresh bread.
