A quick, hearty and aromatic one-dish oven dinner. Crispy potatoes, roasted English bacon, ham, onion and garlic, topped with melted cheese and wild garlic. The recipe is flexible depending on supplies and technically simple – ideal for a weekday.

For 4 serving

Ingredients

Optional (for variation):

Herbs: rosemary, thyme, marjoram

Preparation procedure

  • Preheat the oven and prepare the potatoes. Set the oven to 200 °C (fan). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly drizzle with oil. Slice the potatoes into rounds about 5 mm thick.
  • Par-bake the potatoes. Spread them in a single layer, lightly salt and pepper, and drizzle lightly with oil. Bake 15–20 minutes until they begin to turn golden.
  • Add the remaining ingredients. Remove the tray, turn the potato slices. Evenly distribute the bacon, ham, onion and pressed garlic (and mushrooms or pepper, if using). Return to the oven and bake another 10–15 minutes until the bacon is golden and the onion has softened.
  • Finish with cheese. Sprinkle the surface with grated cheese and wild garlic. Return for 2–3 minutes so the cheese melts and lightly browns.
  • Serve. Serve immediately – on its own with a vegetable salad, a yogurt dip, or as a side to meat.

Total preparation time: 45–55 minutes (10–15 minutes preparation + 27–38 minutes baking)

Servings: 4–6 (tray approx. 30 × 40 cm)

Tips and Variations

  • Check seasoning according to the saltiness of the bacon and cheese. Preferably add extra salt only after tasting.

  • For a crispier top bake briefly under the top grill (1–2 minutes).

  • Lighter version: Replace part of the bacon with vegetables, add herbs and use only a small amount of cheese.

With a few available ingredients you can create a juicy and delicious dish with crispy edges that easily adapts to your pantry. Add it to the weekly menu – just slice, par-bake, top and briefly bake.
