Festive cream wreaths with vanilla cream are among the classic Czech desserts that never disappoint. The airy choux pastry, the delicate pudding cream and a layer of whipped cream form a perfect combination of flavors and textures. This recipe is ideal for the festive table, family celebrations and Sunday coffee.

Preparation procedure

  • Preparation of the dough: Pour water into a pot, add the margarine and a pinch of salt. Once the mixture starts to boil and the fat has melted, remove from the heat and stir in the flour. Stir until a smooth dough forms that pulls away from the sides of the pot. Let it cool. Gradually beat the eggs into the cooled dough – one at a time. This is best done with an electric mixer. Transfer the dough into a piping bag and pipe rings about 6 cm in diameter onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Bake in an oven preheated to 180 °C for about 25 minutes, until the wreaths turn golden. Do not open the oven during baking so they don't collapse.
  • Preparation of the cream: Mix Zlatý klas into a portion of the milk. Bring the remaining milk to a boil with the sugar and vanilla sugar. Stir in the mixed pudding and cook until thickened. Let cool. Whisk the softened butter into the cold pudding and beat until smooth and airy.
  • Filling the wreaths: Cut the baked wreaths in half. Fill the bottom halves with vanilla cream, spread the whipped cream with stabilizer on top, and close with the top halves. Finally, dust with powdered sugar.
