Preparation procedure

  • Preparing the yeast starter Add the sugar and crumble the yeast into the lukewarm milk. Let stand for 10 minutes, until the starter rises.
  • Dough Sift the flour into a bowl, add the salt, vanilla sugar, egg, melted butter and the risen starter. Work into a smooth, non-sticky dough. Cover with a cloth and let rise for 1 hour in a warm place.
  • Shaping and filling Separate small pieces from the risen dough, flatten them in your palm, fill with jam or quark and seal carefully. Shape into balls.
  • Placing into the pan Grease the pan (round cake tin or a standard baking sheet) with butter. Arrange the balls close together. Let rise for another 25 minutes. Brush with melted butter before baking.
  • Baking Bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C for about 25 minutes until golden. For extra moisture, place a bowl of hot water in the oven – the steam will help the dough stay fluffy.

Total preparation time: approx. 2 hours (including rising)

Number of servings: 20–24 buns

Recipe conclusion

Labdabukta is a great proof that even with simple ingredients you can make honest homemade baked goods for the whole family. These buns taste excellent when still warm, but remain soft and moist even the next day. If you brush them with butter and honey or lightly dust them with powdered sugar, they will be even more fragrant and delicious.
