- Preparation of ingredients: Melt the butter and let it cool. Prepare the milk, which must be chilled, as well as the egg whites. Keep the yolks at room temperature.
- Preparing the batter: Beat the yolks with the sugar until light and fluffy, until they double in volume. Gradually add the melted butter, milk and vanilla extract. While continuously beating, gradually mix in the flour.
- Whipped egg whites: Beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt into stiff peaks. Gently fold the meringue into the yolk mixture so the batter remains airy.
- Baking: Preheat the oven to 175 °C. Grease a prepared 30 × 40 cm baking tray with butter and dust with flour. Pour the batter onto the tray and bake for about 40 minutes, until the surface turns golden.
- Cooling and serving: After baking, let the cake cool at room temperature. If the center seems soft, it will firm up as it cools. Once leveled, place the dessert in the refrigerator and serve well chilled.
