Preparation procedure

  • Preparation of the starter and dough Crumble the yeast into a small bowl, add a tablespoon of sugar and a little lukewarm milk. Let it rise for 10–15 minutes. Sift the flour into a large bowl, add the remaining sugar, a pinch of salt, the eggs, the remaining milk, the melted butter and the starter. Knead by hand or in a mixer for at least 10 minutes, until a smooth dough forms. Cover with a cloth and let rise for approximately 1 hour, until it doubles in volume.
  • Preparing the pudding Cook the pudding with 400 ml of milk according to the instructions. Adjust the sweetness to taste. Let it cool slightly and stir occasionally.
  • Shaping and filling the kolaches Preheat the oven to 180 °C. Divide the risen dough into 12 equal parts. Shape into balls and flatten them into round discs. Gently form a rim. Place a tablespoon of pudding in the center of each pastry and a few pieces of strawberry on top. Sprinkle with streusel.
  • Baking Bake the kolaches for 15–20 minutes until golden. Let them cool slightly and optionally dust with powdered sugar.
