Preparation procedure
- Pour a little lukewarm milk into a bowl (from the total amount), add a teaspoon of sugar and crumbled yeast. Leave to rise in a warm place for 10 minutes.
- Sieve the plain flour into a larger bowl, add the salt, the remaining milk, the risen starter and finally the soft butter. Work into a smooth, elastic dough – either by hand or with a mixer. It takes about 10 minutes.
- Cover the dough with a cloth and leave to rise in a warm place for about 60 minutes, until it doubles in size.
- Transfer the risen dough to a floured work surface, shape it into a log and place it into a greased loaf pan (approx. 30×10 cm). You can gently brush the top with beaten egg so that it has a nice golden crust after baking.
- Let the dough proof in the pan for another 20–30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 180 °C. Bake the bread for about 35 minutes, until golden brown. After baking, turn it out of the pan and let it cool on a rack.
