This homemade bread is simple to prepare, but its flavor will amaze you. It only takes a few minutes of work and you’ll get a beautifully fluffy, fragrant and tasty bread that will surely delight not only you but also your family. If you add cracklings or herbs, you’ll get an even more amazing version of this bread.

Ingredients

Optional: pork cracklings, dried garlic, onion, herbs (to taste)

Preparation procedure

  • Dough preparation: In a bowl, mix all the ingredients – flour, yeast, salt and caraway seeds. Add the water and stir with a wooden spoon until you obtain a thick dough. Even if the dough doesn't look very appealing, don't worry – the result will be perfect. Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rise for 8 to 10 hours at room temperature.
  • Shaping the dough: After it has risen, transfer the dough onto a well-floured work surface and, with floured hands, stretch it into a rectangle about 3 cm thick. Let the dough rest for 15 minutes and then fold it: folding the sides and top toward the center. Let the dough rest for another 30 minutes.
  • Baking the bread: Preheat the oven to 220–230 °C and place into it an ovenproof casserole dish or roasting pan with a lid that can be closed. Transfer the dough into the hot vessel, lightly dust with flour and cover. Bake covered for 30 minutes, then remove the lid and bake another 15 minutes until the bread has a golden-brown crust.
  • Serving: After baking, let the bread cool and enjoy a fresh slice of homemade bread.
