Preparation procedure
- Dough preparation: Crumble the yeast into lukewarm milk and let it activate. In a bowl, mix the flour, eggs, sugar and melted butter. Pour the milk with the yeast into the resulting well and mix into a smooth dough. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 40 minutes.
- Filling preparation: Meanwhile, mix the ground poppy seeds, sugar, lemon zest, vanilla flavoring and melted butter.
- Shaping the buns: After rising, roll out the dough on a floured surface into a thin sheet. Spread the poppy filling in the middle of the dough, roll up and cut into slices. Arrange the slices on a baking tray lined with baking paper and brush each bun with the beaten egg yolk.
- Baking: Let the buns rest on the tray for another 10 minutes. Bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C for 20 minutes, until golden.
