Preparation procedure

  • In a bowl, whisk the eggs, sugar, oil and butter into a smooth mixture. Pour in the warm milk, add the yeast and stir briefly. Add the flour with the semolina and knead into a smooth, elastic dough.
  • Let the dough rise for about 30 minutes covered with plastic wrap. After rising, divide into two equal pieces, which you will let rest again covered for another 10 minutes.
  • Roll each piece into a rectangle. Spread the center with melted butter, sprinkle with chopped walnuts and raisins. Cut the side edges of the dough into strips about 1.5 cm wide.
  • Fold the dough strips over the filling, one by one, as if braiding. Seal the ends well.
  • Transfer the rolls to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover and let rise for another 15 minutes. Then brush with the egg yolk and bake in a preheated oven at 160 °C for approximately 35 minutes until golden.
