This chocolate-cherry cake is a real treat for all sweet lovers. Thanks to the delicious cream and juicy cherries it is the perfect sweet finish to a cup of coffee or tea. It tastes best when thoroughly chilled!

Preparation procedure

  • Preparing the batter: Beat a uniform batter from the eggs, flour, sugar and baking powder. Divide the batter into two halves – add the cocoa to one and the canned cherries to the other. On a greased and floured baking tray, layer first the light batter and then the dark.
  • Baking: Bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C for 20–25 minutes. You can tell the cake is done when it starts to pull away from the edges of the tray. You can also test it with a toothpick.
  • Preparing the cream: Cook a thick pudding from the milk, chocolate pudding mixes and 2 tablespoons of sugar. Add broken chocolate to the hot pudding and stir until it melts. Whip the butter with the sugar until fluffy and finally add the rum to it. Gradually fold in the cooled chocolate pudding.
  • Assembling the cake: Spread the prepared cream onto the cooled cake base and smooth it. Finally, pour the melted chocolate mixed with butter over the cake.
  • Chilling: Place the cake in the refrigerator and let it chill for at least 3–4 hours.
