Marokánky are one of the most traditional types of Christmas cookies, which many people enjoy throughout the year. These delicate and at the same time moist discs made from almonds, candied fruit and chocolate have a unique taste that you’ll fall in love with at the first bite. Their preparation is surprisingly simple – even a complete beginner can manage it.

This recipe guarantees that the marokánky will not crumble, remaining soft and moist even after several days. The secret lies in the correct ratio of cream and the short baking time, thanks to which they retain their tenderness and excellent texture.

Preparation procedure

  • Preparation of the base mixture: In a saucepan heat the cream, butter and sugar. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved and the mixture begins to gently bubble.
  • Thickening and adding ingredients: Add the flour and simmer briefly until the mixture thickens. Then remove from the heat and stir in the chopped almonds and candied fruit. Let the mixture cool for a few minutes.
  • Shaping and baking: On a baking sheet lined with parchment paper place small mounds of dough and gently spread them into patties. Bake in an oven preheated to 160 °C for 10–12 minutes, until they turn golden at the edges.
  • Chocolate coating: Let the marokánky cool completely. Meanwhile, melt the chocolate in a bain-marie. Coat the bottom of each marokánka with the chocolate and let it set on a wire rack or parchment paper.
