Homemade rolls that are not only beautifully soft but also perfectly flavorful. Thanks to the two-colored dough they are not only delicious but also pleasing to the eye. Great for breakfast, a snack or with coffee. Plus, their preparation is simple!

Preparation procedure

  • Preparing the starter: Crumble the yeast into lukewarm milk, add a little sugar and let the starter rise (about 10 minutes).
  • Kneading the dough: Sift the flour into a bowl, add the sugar, salt, oil and the prepared starter. Work into a smooth dough. Divide the dough into two halves. Work the cocoa into one to create the dark dough.
  • Shaping the rolls: Divide both doughs into smaller equally sized pieces. Roll each piece into a circle. Place one white and one brown circle on top of each other, press them together slightly and cut into triangles. Roll the triangles from the wider side toward the tip and shape into rolls.
  • Preparation for baking: Transfer the rolls to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let them rest for 15 minutes. Before baking, brush them with beaten egg.
  • Baking: Bake in a preheated oven at 200 °C for approximately 15–20 minutes, until the rolls are golden brown.

Tips:

  • You can fill the rolls with jam, Nutella or a nut filling for an even richer taste.
  • The combination of white and brown dough allows you to create different visual variations.
