Preparation procedure

  • Preparation of the dough: Have a bowl ready into which you put the flour, sugar, salt and baking powder. Add the egg yolks and margarine. Mix and crumble all the ingredients. Pour in the wine and work into a smooth dough. Wrap it in cling film and put it in the refrigerator for an hour.
  • Preparation of the apple filling: Mix the grated apples with the lemon juice, add the honey, cinnamon and cloves and mix thoroughly.
  • Preparation of the poppy seed and nut fillings: In each pot heat the wine with the sugar and raisins until the sugar dissolves. Add the ground poppy seeds to one pot and the ground nuts to the other. Stir until everything combines and let the mixtures cool.
  • Shaping and baking the štědrák: Remove the dough from the refrigerator and divide it into four equal parts. Roll each part into a thin sheet. Line the pan with baking paper and place the first sheet of dough on the bottom. Spread it with half of the plum jam and spread the cooled nut filling on top. Place the second sheet of dough, again spread with jam and spread the poppy seed filling. Spread the apple filling on the third sheet and cover with the last sheet of dough.
  • Finishing baking: Prick the surface of the cake with a fork, brush with the beaten egg and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C about 50-60 minutes. Let the cake cool overnight.
  • Final touches: After cooling, sprinkle the štědrák with powdered sugar and serve!
