Sesame seeds are a true gift of nature with a long history of use in the kitchen and traditional health care. In Indian legends they are a symbol of longevity, in Chinese tradition they were valued for supporting the kidneys, liver, spleen and lungs. Today we are rediscovering their power – from supporting hormonal balance through the heart and bones to beautiful skin and hair.
Sesame and women’s health
For women, sesame is an exceptional food. It supports hormonal balance, helps manage symptoms of menopause (hot flashes, insomnia, heart palpitations, nervousness) and eases heavy menstruation. Thanks to its high calcium content (several times more than milk) it is great for bones and the prevention of osteoporosis. During pregnancy and breastfeeding it supplies valuable B vitamins and minerals; however, always pay attention to a balanced diet and individual tolerance.
Sesame’s power for whole-body health
Sesame seeds are full of nutrients – proteins, healthy fats, minerals and antioxidants. With regular consumption they can help:
- maintain normal blood pressure,
- lower cholesterol levels and support heart health,
- support liver regeneration and natural detoxification,
- act against anemia and improve blood formation,
- strengthen immunity and metabolism,
- alleviate constipation thanks to its fiber content,
- relieve dry cough,
- benefit the eyes, skin, mucous membranes and nails,
- support the musculoskeletal system in arthritis, osteoporosis and after fractures,
- improve memory and concentration,
- counteract stress and promote restful sleep.
Sesame is suitable for students, athletes, manual workers and seniors – small seeds, big effect.
Sesame oil – liquid gold
Sesame oil gives dishes a delicate nutty flavor and is suitable for salads, sauces and Asian cuisine. In body care it is used to hydrate the skin and hair; it is good for dry skin and gentle massages. Its antioxidant content helps protect cells from oxidative stress.
Recipe: homemade sesame spread
Quick, nutritious and tasty – ideal on bread and as a dip for vegetables.
Ingredients:
- 8 tablespoons of sesame seeds,
- 2 tablespoons of oil,
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice,
- 3 tablespoons of dried yeast,
- 1 clove of garlic,
- water as needed,
- a pinch of salt.
Instructions: Grind the sesame seeds in a poppy-seed grinder. Peel and press the garlic. Add dried yeast, lemon juice, garlic and oil to the seeds, season with salt and gradually add water until a smooth, spreadable paste forms.
How to store sesame
Store the seeds in an airtight container in a dark, cool place so they don’t go rancid and lose their nutritional value. It’s best to keep them whole and grind them just before use. After opening, protect sesame oil from light and heat.
