Carp is part of traditional Czech Christmas, but not everyone truly enjoys its taste and the large number of bones. Increasingly more households are therefore looking for an alternative that will be tasty, easy to digest and still festive. One of the best options is plaice – a sea fish with delicate white flesh, minimal bones and a clean flavor without the typical earthiness of freshwater fish.
Plaice has been appearing on Christmas Eve tables more and more often in recent years. It is appreciated even by people who do not usually seek out fish, precisely because of its delicate taste and easy preparation.
Why prefer plaice over carp
Plaice is among very high-quality sea fish. Its flesh is:
- firm, yet juicy
- almost free of small bones
- mild in flavor without a muddy aftertaste
- suitable also for children and seniors
Unlike carp, complicated deboning is not necessary and with proper preparation the meat remains compact and juicy.
Nutritional values of plaice
Plaice is not only tasty but also nutritionally very valuable:
- high-quality proteins – support regeneration and long-lasting satiety
- omega-3 fatty acids – benefit the heart and blood vessels
- vitamin D – important for bones and the immune system
- selenium, magnesium and B vitamins – support the nervous system
Compared to carp, plaice has a lower fat content and is easier to digest, which you will appreciate especially at a hearty Christmas Eve dinner.
