Preparation procedure
- Peel the potatoes, cut them and cook them in salted water until tender. Then make a classic mashed potatoes from them using your favorite method.
- Preparation of the pork: Cut the pork into smaller cubes, and do the same with the onion. In a deeper pan, fry the meat in oil for 3 minutes. Then add salt, pepper and the onion and sauté everything. Reduce the heat, cover and let it cook for 10 to 15 minutes, until the meat is tender and the onion is golden. Leave on low heat for another 4–5 minutes to allow excess juices to evaporate.
- Preparing the filling: Cut the pickled cucumbers into smaller pieces. If you want to tone down their strong flavor, rinse them under cold water. All prepared ingredients (mashed potatoes, meat and cucumbers) are now ready for filling the boats.
- Shaping the boats: Divide the puff pastry into four parts and roll each part into a rectangle. Make cuts on the edges of the dough, place 2–3 tablespoons of mash, meat and a few pieces of cucumbers in the center. Fold the dough so that the cuts are on top, and shape the edges into a boat shape.
- Baking: Place the prepared boats on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush them with beaten egg. Sprinkle the areas where the meat is with grated hard cheese. Preheat the oven to 180 °C and bake the boats for 25 minutes until golden.
- Serving: You can serve the baked boats with a fresh vegetable salad or pickled vegetables.
