If you have dry bread at home that would otherwise end up in the pantry, try making these mug dumplings. They are simple, require no proofing or great effort, and yet taste great as a side dish with sauces or meats.

Preparation procedure

  • Sift the flour and salt into a bowl
  • Beat the yolks with the milk and slowly combine with the flour and salt. A thin batter will form.
  • Stir in the stale bread (rolls) cut into cubes
  • Whip the egg whites with a pinch of salt into stiff peaks
  • Gently fold into the batter
  • Prepare 3-4 mugs (300ml and more) greased with butter and dusted with flour
  • Fill the mugs with batter up to two-thirds
  • Place the filled mugs in a water bath so that the water reaches at most halfway up the mugs
  • Depending on the size of the mugs used, cook 25 - 40 minutes
  • A cap will form on the mug
  • After cooking, let cool and turn out
