- Preparing the starter: In one bowl add the yeast, sugar and pour in a little warm water. Cover the mixture with a cloth and place in a dark spot until a starter forms.
- Preparing the dough: In a second bowl, mix the flour with the salt and water. Add the prepared starter and caraway or rosemary to taste. Work into a smooth dough and let it rest for at least 4 hours. The longer the dough rises, the more holes it will have.
- Shaping the bread: From the risen dough, shape into smaller loaves or one larger loaf.
- Baking: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and preheat the oven. Bake the bread at 250 °C for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, reduce the oven temperature to 220 °C and continue baking for another 30 minutes.
- Storage: After baking, store the bread like any other baked goods.
