Pudding desserts have a long tradition in Czech households and are among the most popular sweet treats. This pudding cake originating from Poland is something special – its moist dough and delicate creamy filling complement each other perfectly and create a dessert that literally melts on the tongue. Its preparation is simple and even a beginner can manage it. It is suitable as a sweet finale after lunch, as well as a dessert with coffee or tea.

Preparation procedure

  • Dough preparation: Bring the water with the butter and a pinch of salt to a boil in a saucepan. Once the butter has melted, add the flour and, stirring constantly, prepare a smooth dough that will not stick to the sides of the pan. Let it cool slightly.
  • Finishing the dough: Gradually beat the eggs into the lukewarm dough and finally add the baking powder. Divide the dough into two halves.
  • Pudding filling: Cook the pudding from the milk, sugar and pudding mix according to the instructions. For a milder flavor you can also add a little cream or lemon zest. Let the filling cool briefly.
  • Assembling the cake: Spread the first half of the dough on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Spread the pudding filling over it and cover it with the second half of the dough.
  • Baking: Place in an oven preheated to 180 °C and bake for about 35–40 minutes, until the surface is golden brown. After cooling, you can sprinkle the cake with powdered sugar.

Conclusion

The pudding cake is fluffy, light and at the same time gently creamy. Thanks to its simplicity and great taste, it is suitable for family celebrations, gatherings with friends, and as a quick dessert with afternoon coffee. If you like fruity variations, you can add slices of apples, apricots or other fruit between the layers. It tastes best chilled, ideally after a few hours in the refrigerator.
