Rum crescents are among the popular Christmas cookies that combine the taste of chocolate, nuts and rum in perfect balance. Their delicate dough, complemented by a sweet rum glaze, will scent the whole kitchen and create a true festive atmosphere. From one batch you can make up to 120 small crescents that will definitely not go unnoticed on the festive table.

Preparation procedure

  • Preparing the dough: Prepare a baking sheet, grease it with fat and dust with flour. Preheat the oven to 190 °C. In a bowl, beat the yolks with the sugar and softened butter until fluffy. Add the ground nuts, flour and melted chocolate.
  • Egg whites: Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Mix half of the egg whites with a little flour and add to the yolk mixture. Then gently fold in the remaining egg whites with a wooden spoon so the batter stays airy.
  • Baking: Spread the finished batter evenly on the prepared baking sheet and smooth it. Bake for 25–30 minutes, until the surface is golden and a toothpick inserted comes out dry.
  • Glaze: In a bowl, beat the powdered sugar with the rum into a smooth, glossy glaze. Adjust the consistency as needed by adding a few drops of rum or more sugar. Pour the glaze over the baked sheet and spread evenly. Let cool and set.
  • Shaping the crescents: Using a round cutter (approx. 4.5 cm in diameter), cut circles tightly next to each other so they form half-moons. This minimizes waste and yields beautiful shapes.
