Sea buckthorn is rightfully considered a Czech natural wonder. These small orange berries are literally packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. They contain up to ten times more vitamin C than citrus fruits, and therefore sea buckthorn is an ideal weapon against colds, flu and winter fatigue. Sea buckthorn syrup is a great way to enjoy the power of nature every day – it tastes great, strengthens and heals.

Why sea buckthorn syrup

Sea buckthorn syrup is sweet, refreshing and at the same time full of healing substances. It helps to:

  • strengthen the immune system,
  • protect the heart and blood vessels,
  • provide energy when exhausted,
  • improve memory and concentration,
  • regenerate the skin and hair.

And best of all – you can easily make it at home.

Traditional recipe for homemade sea buckthorn syrup

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg fresh sea buckthorn,
  • 1 kg quality honey (or 700 g sugar for longer shelf life),
  • (optional) juice of 1 lemon for freshness.

Method 1 – with honey (the healthiest option)

  1. Wash the sea buckthorn and let it drain.
  2. Blend the berries into a smooth purée.
  3. Strain the juice through a fine sieve or cloth.
  4. Mix with honey in a 1 : 1 ratio and add the lemon juice.
  5. Pour into glass bottles and store in the refrigerator.

This syrup is not cooked, so it retains all vitamins and lasts up to 2–3 months.

Method 2 – with boiling (longer shelf life)

  1. Crush the sea buckthorn and put it into a pot.
  2. Add the sugar and 500 ml of water.
  3. Simmer over low heat for 20–30 minutes.
  4. Strain and pour the hot syrup into sterilized bottles.
  5. Seal and let cool.

This method preserves the syrup, so it will last the whole winter.

How to consume the syrup

  • 1–2 tablespoons every morning on an empty stomach,
  • or diluted with water as an energy drink,
  • as a natural sweetener in teas or smoothies,
  • as a course for 3–4 weeks to boost immunity.

Children over 3 years old need only 1 teaspoon per day.

Health benefits of sea buckthorn syrup

  • Boosts immunity – acts as a shield against viruses and bacteria.
  • Supports heart health – thanks to the content of omega-3, -6 and -9 fatty acids.
  • Provides energy – helps with fatigue and after illness.
  • Supports the brain and memory – contains vitamin E and antioxidants.
  • Beautifies skin and hair – beta-carotene and vitamin A regenerate cells.

Warning

People with gastritis or stomach ulcers should consume the syrup in moderation. Diabetics can choose the honey variant, but in smaller amounts.

Liquid sun in a bottle

Sea buckthorn syrup is literally liquid sunshine – it will help you get through the winter without a runny nose and fatigue, giving you strength, energy and a good mood. And besides – it tastes amazing!
